Angine De Poitrine

Angine De Poitrine

Angine de Poitrine is a Québécois microtonal, psychedelic groove rock duo based in Saguenay, Quebec, Canada. The group is comprised of [a=Khn de Poitrine], who often plays a homemade, double-necked bass and guitar, plus drummer / percussionist [a=Klek de Poitrine]. The two members wear black and white polka-dotted costumes and elaborate, large papier-mâché masks. The group is named after the medical condition "angina pectoris" ("angine de poitrine" in French). Angine de Poitrine formed in the Chicoutimi borough of Saguenay, Quebec, in 2019. The duo members have been musical collaborators for two decades, having performed together in various projects since the age of 13. The project began as a gag after the pair were booked to perform twice in one week in 2019 with their then main project at the same local Saguenay venue; concerned that audiences would not attend the second show, they decided to play the latter set as anonymous, costumed performers under a different name. To complete what the duo later likened to an "Andy Kaufman-esque joke", they constructed oversized papier-mâché masks with giant noses and full-body black-and-white polka-dotted costumes. After that one-off performance, duo continued to play with their main band. During the COVID-19 pandemic, with live opportunities limited, the members took up construction jobs. Angine de Poitrine re-surfaced again in 2023, beginning to perform regularly.
